Aston Villa produced a stunning performance to thrash champions Liverpool 7-2 at Villa Park on Monday night, moving up to second place in the Premier League table. Ollie Watkins was the star of the show for Villa, scoring a perfect hat-trick as the hosts ran riot against the Reds.
First League Win Against Liverpool Since 2015
Villa's victory was their first against Liverpool in the league since 2015, and it was a result that sent shockwaves through the Premier League. Liverpool had been in poor form in recent weeks, but few could have predicted the magnitude of their defeat at Villa Park.
The hosts took the lead after just four minutes when Watkins headed home a Harvey Elliott cross. Philippe Coutinho equalized for Liverpool, but Villa restored their lead through a powerful strike from Douglas Luiz.
