All American Boys: A Modern-Day Tale of Police Brutality
All American Boys, a novel by Jason Reynolds, explores the aftermath of a police brutality incident through the alternating perspectives of two high school students, Rashad and Quinn. Rashad, an African-American junior, is eager to shed his Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps uniform for a night out with friends. However, their plans are shattered when he is wrongfully detained and beaten by the police.
Rashad's Hospitalization and Shackling
After the beating, Rashad is taken to the hospital with a broken nose and ribs. Despite the severity of his injuries, he is shackled to his hospital bed and watched over by a policeman.
