McMichael couldn't make it to ceremony, so it came to him
Former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Steve McMichael, who is battling ALS, was taken to a hospital Wednesday because of a urinary tract infection, his publicist said.
McMichael, 65, was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a Player in 2024. He was nicknamed "Mongo" and "Ming the Merciless."
McMichael couldn't make it to the Hall of Fame ceremony, so the ceremony came to him. He was inducted in a special ceremony at his home in Lake Forest, Illinois.
McMichael played 13 seasons with the Bears and was a key member of the team's Super Bowl XX championship team. He was known for his toughness and intensity on the field.
McMichael was diagnosed with ALS in 2021. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. There is no cure for ALS.
