WEB Sanchez Sosa and Strahm lead Phillies to important win over Dodgers
Edmundo Sosa and Kyle Schwarber homered back-to-back
After dropping their first game of the series against the Dodgers, the Phillies bounced back with a 4-3 win on Sunday night. Cristopher Sanchez pitched six strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits, and Edmundo Sosa and Kyle Schwarber homered back-to-back in the fourth inning to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead.
The Dodgers came back to tie the game in the fifth inning on a two-run homer by Will Smith, but the Phillies regained the lead in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Marsh. The Phillies bullpen held on in the seventh and eighth innings, and Nick Strahm pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.
The win gives the Phillies a 2-1 series win over the Dodgers, and improves their record to 54-48. The Phillies are now in third place in the NL East, 2.5 games behind the first-place Mets.
Sanchez was making his first start since July 19, and he looked sharp. He allowed just one run on five hits in six innings of work, striking out two and walking one. It was Sanchez's first win since June 26.
Sosa and Schwarber provided the offense for the Phillies. Sosa hit a solo homer in the fourth inning, and Schwarber followed with a two-run homer to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead.
